Visiting Pelion, Greece

First time visiting Pelion which is a region near Volos in Greece.

I’ve wanted to visit for a long time, but it’s a bit out of the way which makes it hard to get to as a stop over. The benefit of this is that it still retains a bit of an off the beaten path feel.

It’s characterised by mountain top villages and beautiful clean beaches.

Took the opportunity to rent a bike and do some touring early yesterday morning before the heat. Was very tough going, but the views were rewarding.

The natural springs help the local farmers who product tasty organic produce you can sample in the local restaurants.

Tavern Meintani in Zagora

We stayed in a hilltop town named Zagora, which is full of locals and feels like a previous period in time.

It’s surrounded by forrest with eternal springs, and beautiful outlooks.

The beaches around Pelion are more akin to the Greek islands rather than the mainland. It can be hairy getting down to them, as the roads are tight and windy, and severely storm damaged due to recent flood events.

We have visited numerous beaches in the region and while Mylopotamos and Fakistra come highly regarded our favourite was Agoi Saranta beach,
